Reasons & philosophy behind running, staying active, healthy & fit.:Initially I had only one reason for running is weight loss ,I achieved about 50 % and failed to be consistent on track .. Then started again this time I started to love it , stayed disciplined on diet and consistent on track which helped to lose overall weight , clothes size decreased from XXL to M , then understood it is a process the more you work on it the results will be great … After completion of every run may be small distance also you will feel as if you have achieved something new and your day will be fresh and active … Healthy & Fit Body is more important nowadays for long life and unhealthy lifestyle …

What is it to be a #fitsian?:Being a fitsian changed my life totally. During my college days, I was like some fatty junk food eater who always needs something to crunch all the day, Weight was booming to some 3 digits, clothes not fitting and belly going out shapeless .. Many times felt why I am like this? Then I decided to change my life, I know the journey was very tough I failed multiple times, insulted by some commoners, then came a light of hope with Coach Kay, I followed his instructions, ok sometimes I didn’t but the journey was like a hill many setbacks with multiple injuries (due to my work-related) but bounced back with a strong will … So #fitsian is not just a hashtag it’s an emotion …

Reasons & philosophy behind running, staying active, healthy & fit.:I was a gym freak till college days. Post completion of studies, I settled in Virudhunagar. Like everyone, I too gained weight post marriage & Kids. Due to a lack of proper gym, I started running casually to keep my weight under control.

During the initial days of running, 70 mins 10km used to be a big achievement. After being consistent with running for a few months, I found there are many other health advantages.

More importantly “Running is my ME time” and I don’t want to miss it. In Dec 2013, I made my first 10km timed debut run at the Chennai Marathon & from there, there is no stopping.

Reasons & philosophy behind running, staying active, healthy & fit.:Running to me is the most complete metaphor of Life. I have rushed this far into Life, fully realising that I should have slowed down, taken in more of the journey than heading out to nowhere, yet often finding myself gasping for meaning – so in running. How many marathons have I started with empty dreams of some even emptier number to achieve, and missed the journey, ending up in angst, past reflections and renewed resolutions? What was missing? A Guru. Here I am with Coach Kay who has helped me find meaning – mark my words, not found meaning for me, but enabled me find meaning. And life through its queer twists and turns, now seems a different journey if only I look within, search for strength, reflect on the course, recognise my vulnerabilities and find the right pace, right breath, right step and deep strength.
Running, key accomplishments… HIGHLIGHT significant events, distances & PB times – which are your boasting rights:I have touched the Full Marathon finish 24 times, the fastest of them outside the Queen’s Residence in London – 3:49.
I have climbed the mountains thrice – Munnar, Malnad, Ooty.
I have run the half marathon a number of times – have not kept count – the fastest of them when my Garmin stopped at 16, and I meditated my way to the finish through the beautiful streets of Copenhagen at 1:43:24.
I love the endurance challenge than the speed challenge – endurance to me should culminate in speed deep diving into the realms of one’s Self, than just tearing away to a 5k – life, after all is a Marathon and never a sprint!
Key running/fitness milestones since joining the Academy:Ran my fastest half marathon;
Steadily improved my Marathon journey – 4:43,4:27, 4:03 twice 3:49… and there are miles to go before I sleep. God willing of course!
My 1-3 years health/fitness/running goals:Qualify for Boston in 2021 and do my PB at Boston 2022!
Hobbies:Running
Reading
Listening to Carnatic Music
Observing the journey of life

Reasons & philosophy behind running, staying active, healthy & fit.:I run because I can. I have been an athlete in school, representing my state in the school nationals. I am a student of Nutrition, having completed my master’s in Foods & Nutrition. A potent combination for a lifelong pursuit of fitness and wellness. However, family and work let this passion take a backseat, but for a lone foray of 2 years in my mid-30s to acquire a black belt in Karate. When the human children grew older, I built another brood of canines at home that needed to be taken care of. I realised then I was losing myself in all of these worldly activities. Then the running bug bit me and here I am .
Running, key accomplishments… HIGHLIGHT significant events, distances & PB times – which are your boasting rights:Doing my first full marathon Wipro Chennai 2018 & doing my first Ultra on a hill were the most significant milestones in my running life. Never did I dream of attempting an FM and I demolished that WALL. OOTYULTRA 2018 was the most unforgettable runcation ever. I am not a fast runner due to my breathing issues and find it difficult to sustain pace over longer periods of time but can run a mean 100-200 mtrs.
Key running/fitness milestones since joining the Academy:I took a long break from the academy after 6 months owing to a lot of personal and professional challenges that took my time away from running. I would say that COVID-19 has instilled a great deal of discipline for home workouts in the absence of outdoor running and camaraderie that we miss the most.
My 1-3 years health/fitness/running goals:For a woman nearing 50 and the associated health problems with advancing age, its critical to remain healthy and fit. To that effect, whatever it takes.. if it means motivating several others to take up fitness for health that would remain a constant reminder to me of my goals, so be it. I do love to inspire people but the proof is when they actually bite the fitness bullet and be consistent about it.I would like to repeat another FM but not until I am fully trained to take on the rigors of the event. Until then I am happy with the Halves and the 10ks.
Hobbies:Running impromptu fitness challenges with friends, family, and colleagues

Reasons & philosophy behind running, staying active, healthy & fit.:Started my running journey with a random 10k event and realized that i can do better with proper training. Running fever continued with 1st HM in Dec 2017, 1st 30K (Ooty Ultra) in April 2018 and 1st FM in Sep 2018. after which I had my share of injuries as I didn’t involve much strength workouts in my training.
Running to me has evolved to be just more than being active. It has helped me to shape my attitude towards life, in general. The running community has been fabulously helping each other in achieving the goals, which is evident prominently during these lockdown periods.

80 K: 12:39:23 (3000m elevation gain, Malnad Ultra 2020)
Key running/fitness milestones since joining the Academy:All the above mentioned could be achieved after joining KaysFIT academy and training under Coach Kay.
My 1-3 years health/fitness/running goals:Goals are quite diverse and will take quite a lot of training to get to them. Increased focus on strength training and diet control. I wish to continue the improvements on my timings of HM/FM. I wish to participate in some of the tougher Ultras like Malnad 110K, Border 100 miler, LA Ultra 111, Vagamon 90K and SRT etc. I really enjoy mountain trail ultras.
Hobbies:Cycling, singing and learning more about running/fitness.
What is it to be a #fitsian?:Being a #fitsian has added multiple dimensions to my life as an athlete (from track to road to trail running). Coach Kay has been fabulous in guiding me to various goals in a very short span of time. The biggest learning I have got is to focus on being injury free. Because each injury pulls us back many notches as a runner. I have had my share of running injuries and as a result learnt a lot on prevention from Coach Kay. Apart from that, KaysFIT academy is like a small community wherein we all admire n learn a lot from each other.

Reasons & philosophy behind running, staying active, healthy & fit.:Frankly, I still don’t know why I am running. At some point, I got inspired by the Chennai Marathon and participated in 2016 for a 10k run. Reasons & philosophy behind running, staying active, healthy & fit.:Was a regular guy until i discovered running my accident. I used to be able to walk on a treadmill and boast of running to my wife. All of this changed when my wife signed me up for a 10k run. Her philosophy was simple, run as long as you can and give up when you cant.(taunt)..i took that up and did the run in 1.09 and was quite proud and let the running bug bite me….The chase was for a sub 1 hour 10k, followed by by finishing a half and then a full marathon. Managed to finally break the 2hour HM marathon in 2019..the same bug has been active for over 5 years now. Having done 4 FMs, multiple Half marathons 10k runs are more often than not, just training runs. I signed up for the Comrades in 2020, and hope to do it in 2021.

Reasons & philosophy behind running, staying active, healthy & fit.:I’ve been running my entire life. My father was an avid runner, cyclist, skier and football player and used to take me on early morning runs with him since I was 5 years old. We ran in any weather, sunshine, rain, or snow and even won a few relay races as a family. When I grew up I became self-conscious about being a black sheep in town and stopped running. Fortunately or unfortunately, my school had extremely high standards for PE. We had to do most Olympic sports including track and field, gymnastics, and skiing. I was OK in most sports (although I did not enjoy them) but I was failing in running! I could hardly complete 3km on the track, not to mention doing it in the required 18 minutes! When I was 13 I decided I had had enough. During the summer holidays, I started running every morning and cycling to the beach or rollerblading in the afternoon. When I returned to school three months later I was one of the fastest and was even invited to the track team. Since then running and being active became a part of my lifestyle. I discovered that being active made me happier, stronger, and more confident in all areas of life.
Yet, I never thought of racing until I went to Venezuela and accidentally won a 12K race there. Then I started training and running for the municipal government club and won a few more half marathons and 10Ks.In Europe, a half marathon is often referred to as Marathon, so I was completely oblivious to the fact that people run double of that. What a crazy idea!

When I moved to the US in 2005 I joined a local running club that had a marathon running buildup program. They would add a mile or two to the Saturday long runs every week until they got to 22 miles. Before I knew it I was training for my first marathon! I was in pretty good running shape, so my coach suggested I run a 20 miler 3 weeks before the marathon as a tune-up race. The National Capital 20 Miler was out and back race on the rolling hills along the Potomac River. The perfect terrain and the gorgeous views made me kick in the fast gear, which became even faster when I heard the spectators shout: “the first woman!”. Winning that race gave me a lot of assurance in the upcoming marathon. Unfortunately, I didn’t make it to the start line of the Marine Corps that year, having found out I had a stress fracture in my femur. That took a couple of months on crutches and a long rehab before I could trim again. Yet, the following year I came back with a vengeance and my first marathon is still my PR!

Since then I’ve run another Marine Corps (a minute slower than the first time), Boston, Chicago, Paris, New York, Big Sur as well as some local marathons, 13 200 mile overnight relay and 3 six-hour ultra runs, not to count half marathons, 10K and 5K races. I run for the challenge, for the fun of it, for my running community, for my physical and mental health. I run for the memory of my father who would be proud to see my successes. I run for my daughter who I hope will discover the joy of running someday.

Reasons & philosophy behind running, staying active, healthy & fit.:A few years back, I did not like running on roads assuming it would hurt my knees. I always wondered what fun it was to run for multiple hours.

But after regularly walking (almost every day) for over 1 year. I got drawn into running after participating Chennai Marathon 32Kms. Since then I have been a regular runner.

What I liked the most was to go around the city or admiring the beauty of nature scenarios (if it’s outside city-run) while running and sometimes talking with some unknowns and sometimes talking with self during the run… and getting opportunities to learn more about life…

Lastly, of-course health and fitness, getting to learn more with Coach Kay …My dream is to run for the next 40 to 50 years without any health issues or finding or having the dependency on someone else to support my life
